Our Year in Tweets: A Streed Christmas Letter (Sort of)

Our Year in Tweets:

A Streed Christmas Letter (sort of)

Here's some Streed highlights from 2012 as tweeted by me, @natestreed, on Twitter. You'll laugh, you'll cry… well at least you'll get a little insight into our lives.  God has blessed us through Jesus in peace and joy this year.  Our  peace and hope come from our relationship with our God.

Merry Christmas and a happy 2013 from the Streeds.

note: At the beginning of each tweet you'll see the date and time of the tweet. You can click on it to see the actual tweet.  At the end of several of the tweets you can click the link to see the picture on line.

Family

Sabbath day when each of our 5 kids have a separate activity they need to be driven to? It's still gonna work.
  • We find it refreshing to take a day off each week to rest, relax, spend time with God and each other but sometimes the suburban lifestyle presents challenges to our resolve.
I told the 4 yr old it's nap time when I come in. Is it an accident that the door was locked when I tried to come in from the deck? Doubt it

"Hey kids, let's play mime" led to 15 serene seconds of quiet and then the chaotic din continued unabated. #kids #ourhouse #dad

Big chip in my front tooth from scuffle w/ the 8yr old. He took offense at my stopping at the good part in "The Lion,The Witch and The Wardrobe"

God is good. He's been the glue thats kept us together thru the ups and downs (more ups) of 17 years of marriage. Happy Anniversary Jenni!

Way to go Stars. Championship game 1:00 tomorrow at the Xcel Center #volleyball instagr.am/p/R1FHzCQvsY/
  • Anna started attending Southwest Christian High School this fall and made the JV team as a freshman in the middle hitter position.  She got called up to practice with the varsity team and was on the roster as they marched through to the Minnesota State Class A final where they were runner up.

One of the best parts of my entire life is dinner time with Jenni and the kids #true #funny #insightful #goodfood

Yet another reason we love coming to Grandma and Grandpa's farm #steak #SouthDakota instagr.am/p/RjENVGwvnE/

  • The big news at the farm is that Grandpa sold all the dairy cows.

The whole family thinks it's really funny that I ripped a huge hole in my biking shorts teaching the boys to ride a wheelie... Except me
  • Actually I thought it was pretty funny or I wouldn't have tweeted it.

Quite the day - Conference Runner Ups in VB, 1st Place in Lutheran State CC meet and 1st Bb game + 2 b-day parties. It's 7:30 let's eat supper

  • Maria, our 7th grader, is our runner and gracefully and ruthlessly conquered in her first season in cross country.  She placed 1st in the 7th grade division of the Lutheran State Cross Country Meet.
  • Trinity, a second grader, played her 1st basketball game ever and she learned a ton this year.  She also liked playing
  • Anna's Junior Varsity volleyball team achieved conference runner up status
  • Jaden, in third grade and not mentioned in this tweet, is into basketball and desperately wants to play football.

Stuff Streed Kids Say

"Dad, why do you have that big nose?" ~ the 4 year old.... Well, all the better to smell of course

After sitting on the toilet a long time - "Dad my feet feel like sand. It feels like people are playing with my feet" ~ the 4 year old

"Some day I will release my inner duck dance" Anna Streed

8/18/12, 9:35 AM "And bless this junk food to our bodies" - the 7 year old #Saturdaymorning donuts
  • That would be Trinity.

"Dad, do that golf ball thing" - the 4yr old (he meant flex your muscles dad) - well thanks a lot kid!

"Dad, I did real good!" face completely obscured by an enormous wide grin ~ Jed, on his first day of tee ball

Fun and Exciting Events

3 cop cars in front of our house - guns drawn - got the bad guys I guess - looks like it was a chase - pretty exciting
  • True story!

Shedd Aquarium - Awesome. Navy Pier - Ok. McDonald's on Navy Pier... We'll go with Haagen Das next time
  • For our summer vacation we drove out to Michigan to stay at Uncle Bill and Aunt Ruth's vacation cabin for a wonderful week of relaxation and fun.  We took a day trip into Chicago where we enjoyed a free day at the Shedd Aquarium courtesy of Maida.

So there I in the van waiting out the T-storm and telling the boys there was nothing to fear when the tornado warning sounded... #camping

  • Next year I'm going to bring plates so we don't have to all eat out of the "man pan".

Streed's Minnesota State Fair Fun 2012 instagr.am/p/PHub-sQvus/

  • this year we were able to bring the whole crew.  One of our favorite fair foods is Sweet Martha's Cookies enjoyed with all you can drink milk.

Church

Clearly, I am loved here at the office! Pretty funny stuff ow.ly/i/N9B5

  • I'm in my 8th year on staff at City Hill Church and still enjoy working with youth and filling in where needed as an associate pastor.

A special thank u to Brittany and @MaddyBradley, our servers, cake bakers and photographer 4 the surprise date night. Jenni and I are very blessed
  • Jenni and I got a surprise date night that included being chauffeured, fine dining on a deck, a photo shoot (not sure where those photos went) and eating cake in the park with a great group of youth and youth staff.

You guys know how to make a 4REAL Party ROCK @LaurenRadach @EricSMonson @PrestholdtM and @cmschild - it's great to be on your team!
  • Jenni and I have enjoyed working with an incredible volunteer youth staff this year.  These guys know how to love kids and get stuff done while having fun.

Jenni Goes To Rwanda
  • Jenni had a chance to take a Service Learning Trip (mission trip) to Rwanda (in Africa) with a group of from our church and a group from Gustavus.  There she had the opportunity to serve through helping to build an orphanage, cleaning and serving at an orphanage and other various projects.  She also go to meet our the young lady we support through Compassion International, Ruth.

1/2 day 1 with Jenni headed to Rwanda went fairly well. Only one head injury (that's normal) and only one kid cried themselves to sleep
  • Jenni recorded a prayer for each of the younger kids to listen to each night.  They made me play it each night.
Jenni goes to Rwanda fall out: "Dad didn't make us do our room chores every day..." Gee, thanks Anna

Nate Update

8/8/12, 2:46 PM
It's a good day - it's the 2nd day in a row I've entirely cleaned out my inbox! Not, my task list, mind you, but my INBOX.
  • I've taken huge strides in getting organized this year and this is but one small example.
No need for video games if ya got a Saturn station wagon (a.k.a. Hooptie), slick tires and are driving in snow. WHEEEEEE
  • God's continuing miracle is the survival of the "Hooptie", my 1994 Saturn station wagon that went over 200,000 miles this year and currently has over 209,000 on it.

“God never hurries. There are no deadlines against which he must work. Only to know this is to quiet our spirits and relax our nerves.”...

  • Jenni and are continually learning this truth.  I don't remember which book I got this quote from.
To the King of ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. bible.us/1Tim1.17.ESV
  • This is why we exist and the more we understand this truth the more joy and fulfillment we experience.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from the Streeds!
